A Glorious Future
“A Glorious Future” — Romans 8:18-23 “Toto, we’re not in the Bible Belt anymore.&rdquo...
We believe Jesus is God’s only Son and He came to give us eternal life. John 3:16 He was born of a virgin, died on a cross, was buried, rose again three days later, and ascended into Heaven where He awaits those that believe in Him. Jesus is the second person of the Trinity, fully divine. (Matthew 3:17; John 1:1, 14; John 10:30; Colossians 2:9)
Jesus is the Savior: He came to earth to save humanity from sin and reconcile them to God. (Matthew 1:21; John 3:16; Acts 4:12)
Jesus is the Messiah: He fulfills the Old Testament prophecies as the promised Messiah. (Isaiah 9:6-7; Isaiah 53; Matthew 16:16; Luke 2:11)
Jesus is the Word: He is the embodiment of God's message and revelation to humanity. (John 1:1; Hebrews 1:1-3)
Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life: He is the exclusive path to God and eternal life. (John 14:6; Acts 4:12)
To be a Christian means to be a follower of Jesus Christ, believing in him as the Son of God who saves humanity from sin through his death and resurrection. This involves a personal relationship with God through faith, a commitment to follow Jesus's teachings, and a desire to live according to his example. It is characterized by love for God and others, and a life that reflects this faith through actions, not just beliefs.
You’re not here by accident. God loves you. He wants you to have a personal relationship with Him through Jesus, His Son. There is just one thing that separates you from God. That one thing is sin.
The Bible describes sin in many ways. Most simply, sin is our failure to measure up to God’s holiness and His righteous standards. We sin by things we do, choices we make, attitudes we show, and thoughts we entertain. We also sin when we fail to do right things. The Bible affirms our own experience – “there is none righteous, not even one.” No matter how good we try to be, none of us does right things all the time.
People tend to divide themselves into groups – good people and bad people. But God says that every person who has ever lived is a sinner, and that any sin separates us from God. No matter how we might classify ourselves, this includes you and me. We are all sinners.
“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
Many people are confused about the way to God. Some think they will be punished or rewarded according to how good they are. Some think they should make things right in their lives before they try to come to God. Others find it hard to understand how Jesus could love them when other people don’t seem to. But I have great news for you! God DOES love you! More than you can ever imagine! And there’s nothing you can do to make Him stop! Yes, our sins demand punishment – the punishment of death and separation from God. But, because of His great love, God sent His only Son Jesus to die for our sins.
“God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
For you to come to God you have to get rid of your sin problem. But, in our own strength, not one of us can do this! You can’t make yourself right with God by being a better person. Only God can rescue us from our sins. He is willing to do this not because of anything you can offer Him, but JUST BECAUSE HE LOVES YOU!
“He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.” Titus 3:5
It’s God’s grace that allows you to come to Him – not your efforts to “clean up your life” or work your way to Heaven. You can’t earn it. It’s a free gift.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
For you to come to God, the penalty for your sin must be paid. God’s gift to you is His son, Jesus, who paid the debt for you when He died on the Cross.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
Jesus paid the price for your sin and mine by giving His life on a cross at a place called Calvary, just outside of the city walls of Jerusalem in ancient Israel. God brought Jesus back from the dead. He provided the way for you to have a personal relationship with Him through Jesus. When we realize how deeply our sin grieves the heart of God and how desperately we need a Savior, we are ready to receive God’s offer of salvation. To admit we are sinners means turning away from our sin and selfishness and turning to follow Jesus. The Bible word for this is “repentance” – to change our thinking about how grievous sin is, so our thinking is in line with God’s.
All that’s left for you to do is to accept the gift that Jesus is holding out for you right now.
“If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10
God says that if you believe in His son, Jesus, you can live forever with Him in glory.
“For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Are you ready to accept the gift of eternal life that Jesus is offering you right now? Let’s review what this commitment involves:
I acknowledge I am a sinner in need of a Savior – this is to repent or turn away from sin
I believe in my heart that God raised Jesus from the dead – this is to trust that Jesus paid the full penalty for my sins
I confess Jesus as my Lord and my God – this is to surrender control of my life to Jesus
I receive Jesus as my Savior forever – this is to accept that God has done for me and in me what He promised
If it is your sincere desire to receive Jesus into your heart as your personal Lord and Savior, then talk to God from your heart:
Here’s a suggested prayer:
“Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and I do not deserve eternal life. But, I believe You died and rose from the grave to make me a new creation and to prepare me to dwell in your presence forever. Jesus, come into my life, take control of my life, forgive my sins and save me. I am now placing my trust in You alone for my salvation and I accept your free gift of eternal life.”
If you have trusted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, please let us know. We want to rejoice in what God has done in your life and help you to grow spiritually.
Now that you are a Christian, your next steps involve growing in your faith and community, which includes finding a church, reading the Bible, praying regularly, seeking spiritual mentors, and building relationships with other believers. The Christian life is about following Jesus Christ, developing a deeper relationship with God, and living according to His teachings.
1. Deepen Your Relationship with God
Start by reading the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, which describe Jesus's life, death, and resurrection.
Speak to God through prayer to develop a personal relationship with Him and express your thanks and requests.
2. Find a Church and Community
Find a Bible-teaching church where you can gather with other Christians for worship, prayer, and support.
Seek out a small group or Bible study to connect with other believers for encouragement and to learn together.
Spend time with other Christians who can encourage you and whom you can encourage in return.
3. Grow in Your Understanding
Look for a mentor or a pastor who can provide guidance and answer questions as you grow in your faith.
Recognize that Jesus is the Lord of your life and has the authority to direct your path, enabling you to do His will.
Learn how to disciple others as you become more mature in your faith, sharing the good news with those around you.
4. Live Out Your Faith
Core Beliefs
Believing that God has spoken to us through His living Word - the Bible - as the testimony to His only Son, Jesus Christ, the following is an affirmation of those biblical truths on
which we stand firm as one body.
God
There is only one true and living God who is Creator of all things and reveals Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. ¨He is holy and perfect in all His ways and is worthy of worship, love and obedience.
(Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 1:9-11)
Scripture
The Bible is God's Holy Word, divinely inspired without error and is the sole authority for life and faith. (Deuteronomy 4:1-2; Psalm 119:105; Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
God the Father
God the Father reigns with sovereign wisdom, justice and unfailing love over all creation and history. He is the Father of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ and Father of all believers, who are those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ.(1 Chronicles 29:10; John 3:16; Romans 8:14-15)
God the Son
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin. He lived a sinless life as both totally God and totally man, died for our sin on a cross, was buried, arose bodily from the grave on the third day, and ascended into Heaven. He reigns and intercedes for us at the right hand of the Father and will return one day to judge the world and consummate His redemptive mission. He is Savior and Lord to all who put their faith in Him for salvation from sin. (Matthew 1:18-23; John 1:1-18, 29; Philippians 2:5-11)
God the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God who inspired the writing of the Scripture and enables people to understand it. He always exalts Christ. He convicts people of sin, calls them to the Savior and does the work of making them new creations in Christ. When a person comes to Christ in faith, the Holy Spirit baptizes them into the body of Christ. He makes believers holy, comforts them, and gives them spiritual gifts to serve and build up the church. He also empowers all believers to be witnesses of the saving power of Jesus Christ throughout the earth. (John 14: 16-17;John 16: 7-14; Acts 1:8)
Sin and Man
God created man in His own image, both male and female. God and man had perfect fellowship until Satan tempted man, and man chose to disobey and rebel against God. Man's rebellion and disobedience against God is called sin. All mankind is sinful by nature. Sin separates man from fellowship with God, because God is holy and hates sin. God judges sin and all sin must be punished, and the punishment for sin is death. (Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 3; Romans 5:12; Psalm 99:9; Psalm 45:7; Romans 6:23)
Salvation and Eternal Security
Man is securely and eternally saved by God's grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and His shed blood is the only remission for sin. A personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation and eternal life in Heaven, and, apart from a personal faith in Him, man is doomed to eternal damnation in hell. (John 3:15-16, 10:27-29, 14:6; Romans 8:34-39, 10:9-10; 1 Peter 1:3-5; Hebrews 9:22, 27-28)
The Church, Evangelism, and Missions
The church is all believers who have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, gathering together locally as bodies of baptized believers under the lordship of Jesus Christ. The church glorifies God by uniting to corporately worship God, encourage and edify one another, disciple believers toward maturity, minister to those in need, and carry the gospel to the ends of the earth through local, national and international missions. (Acts 2:41-47; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Ephesians 1: 22-23)
Baptism and the Lord's Supper
There are two pictorial ordinances in the Lord Jesus' church: Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer's faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer's death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership.
The Lord's Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby members of the church, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Lord Jesus Christ, God's perfect sacrificial Lamb, and anticipate His second coming. (Matthew 3:13-17; 26: 26-30; 28: 19-20; Mark 1:9-11; 14: 22-26; Luke 3: 21-22; 22: 19-20; John 3: 23; Acts 2: 41-42; 8: 35-39; 16: 30-33; 20:7; Romans 6: 3-5; 1 Corinthians 10: 16, 21; 11: 23-29; Colossians 2:12)
Marriage and Family
Marriage is the first institution God created and ordained in human society. It is God's plan for marriage to be a holy union of one biological man and one biological woman in an exclusive life-long covenant love relationship. Marriage reflects the relationship between Jesus Christ and His Church. Children, from the moment of conception, are a blessing and heritage from the Lord. (Genesis 2: 15-25; Ephesians 5: 21-6:4; Psalm 127: 3-5)
