Application

What difference should this make in my life?
Purpose = to apply timeless truth towards life-change.

Until now, we have been dealing with the past, asking what this all meant (past tense). Now we transition to asking what does in mean now. It is not that the meaning of a Bible passage changes over time per se, but its application may.

Take GREAT CARE to stick with what the passage taught/teaches. Resist the temptation to impose meaning that is not there.

Rewrite your summary sentence(s) for today’s audience; and make it personal.

Example: “As a disciple of Jesus, He is calling me to be completely dependent on Him.”

▪ God’s nature: What does this passage teach me about Who the Father / the Son / the Holy Spirit is? God is completely trustworthy.
▪ Since I am being changed to be more like Jesus, how should I begin to reflect this teaching about God’s nature in my daily life?

Jesus trusted the Father completely. He commended the widow for doing so. I should trust completely and not worry about...
- OR -
Jesus commended the widow for her courageous and sacrificial giving. I should be courageous in how I give back to God too.
▪ How will I live my life differently based on what I have learned?
– Is there a sin to avoid or confess?
– Is there an attitude to emulate?
– Is there a command to keep?
– Is there a prayer to pray?
– Is there a priority to change?
– Is there an example to follow?
– Is there a truth to trust?
– Is there a blessing to give thanks for?
