Passage: Colossians 3:5-14
What if holiness is less about gritting your teeth and more about getting dressed? In Colossians 3:5–14, Paul shows us how the gospel takes us from old rags to new robes—from the grave clothes of our past to the grace garments of our new life in Christ. Because we’ve been united with Jesus, our position (in Christ) reshapes our practice (like Christ).
In this message you’ll learn:
What to take off: the “old rags” of the old self—sensual sins (porneia, impurity), social sins (anger, wrath, malice), and speech sins (slander, obscene talk, lying).
What to put on: the “new robes” of Christ—compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forbearance, forgiveness, and love (the bond of perfection).
How change happens: not by legalism or license, but by union with Christ and the Spirit’s power—becoming practically who you already are positionally.
Key Verse:
“Above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” — Colossians 3:14
Try it this week:
Name one “old rag” to mortify (Col. 3:5–9).
Choose one “new robe” to practice daily (Col. 3:12–14).
Ask: Who do I need to forgive, as the Lord has forgiven me? (v.13)
If you need prayer, want to follow Jesus, be baptized, or join our church family—message us. We’re ready to walk with you.
