Passage: Colossians 3:1-4

When life’s skies turn cloudy, your senses can lie—just ask a pilot. In Colossians 3:1–4, Paul hands us the “instrument panel” for the Christian life: fix your mind on things above so you don’t drift below. This message unpacks the marks of the new man—who you are with Christ, how you think, and how you live.

Scripture: Colossians 3:1–4
Title: Markers of the New Man

Big Idea: Because you’re united with Jesus—past, present, and future—your perspective and practice must change. Don’t fly by feelings; fly by truth.

In this message you’ll see:

  • A New Position (vv.1–4a):
    • Past: You were raised with Christ.
    • Present: Your life is hidden with Christ (secure).
    • Future: You will appear with Him in glory.
  • A New Perspective (vv.1–2):
    • Seek the things above—aim your desires where Christ reigns.
    • Set your mind on things above—train your thoughts on eternal realities, not passing ones.
  • A New Practice (vv.5–11 preview):
    • Grace empowers holiness: put off the old, put on the new.

Key Takeaways

  • Don’t trade the instrument panel (God’s Word) for the fog of feelings.
  • Acceptance with God is by union with Christ, not religious performance.
  • Where your treasure is, your heart and habits will follow (Matt. 6:19–21).

Next Steps

  • Need prayer, baptism, or a church family? Message us—we’d love to walk with you.
  • Read Colossians 3 this week and memorize vv.1–4. Start each day by praying: “Jesus, set my mind on things above.”
