Passage: Mark 6:14-29

What happens when we hear the truth, feel its conviction, but refuse to surrender to it?

In Mark 6:14–29, the lives of Herod Antipas and John the Baptist present a striking contrast. Herod was spiritually curious and even respected John, yet he remained controlled by his appetites, conflicted by conviction, and more concerned with the approval of others than the approval of God.
John, on the other hand, faithfully spoke God's truth regardless of the cost. His ministry was marked by humility, clarity, urgency, and integrity. He would not compromise the message simply because the person who needed to hear it had the power to imprison him.

This passage warns us to beware of a compromised conscience, a hardened heart, and passive participation when we know what is right but refuse to act. Herod had the palace and the party while John had the prison cell—but in the end, there was no question which man was truly free.

John's entire life pointed people toward Jesus: “He must increase, but I must decrease.” His example challenges us to remain faithful to Christ and His Word, regardless of the cost.

The question is not simply whether we've heard the truth, but whether we've responded to it.
